Prokaryotes that perform photosynthesis are classified as producers in an ecosystem.

Producers are organisms that can produce their own food using energy from the environment. Photosynthetic prokaryotes, such as cyanobacteria, use light energy (through the process of photosynthesis) to convert carbon dioxide and water into organic compounds (e.g., glucose) and oxygen. These organic compounds serve as a source of energy and matter for the prokaryotes themselves and also for other organisms in the ecosystem.
