The Calvin cycle will decrease in activity when a plant is grown in an environment with limited CO₂.

The Calvin cycle, also known as the light-independent reactions, occurs in the stroma of the chloroplast. The main function of the Calvin cycle is to fix carbon dioxide and convert it into organic molecules. Through a series of enzymatic reactions, CO₂ is combined with ribulose bisphosphate (C₅) to form 3-phosphoglycerate (C₃), and then, using ATP and NADPH from the light-dependent reactions, C₃ is reduced and converted into glucose (C₆H₁₂O₆) and other carbohydrates.
