Photosynthesis and respiration are related because they are opposite processes. These processes are complementary, with the products of one serving as the reactants for the other.

Photosynthesis: Converts carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen using sunlight energy.

Cellular respiration: Breaks down glucose and oxygen to produce carbon dioxide, water, and ATP (energy).

These two processes are essentially reverse reactions:

Photosynthesis: 6CO₂ + 6H₂O + light energy → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂

Respiration: C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O
