Meteor strikes, especially large ones, have had significant effects on Earth's biodiversity. The most famous example is the asteroid impact about 66 million years ago, which is believed to have caused the mass extinction of around 75% of all species, including non-avian dinosaurs.

Meteor impacts can cause:
