Flooding is the natural disaster most likely to cause widespread soil erosion and loss of habitats. When rivers overflow or heavy rains cause flash floods, the moving water can wash away soil, erode riverbanks, and destroy plant life. This can result in the loss of habitats for many species, particularly in areas like wetlands, forests, and agricultural lands.
