Cholesterol helps maintain the stability of the cell membrane by preventing it from becoming too rigid or too fluid. It is interspersed among the phospholipids in the membrane, and its presence helps to:

1.Prevent excessive fluidity at high temperatures by restricting the movement of phospholipids.

2.Prevent the membrane from becoming too rigid at low temperatures by preventing phospholipids from packing too closely together.
