An individual is homozygous for a gene if both alleles they inherit for that gene are the same.

This can either be two dominant alleles (e.g., AA) or two recessive alleles (e.g., aa).

This is in contrast to heterozygous individuals, who inherit two different alleles for the gene (e.g., Aa).
