If there are no producers in a food chain, energy cannot enter the food chain.

Producers (like plants, algae, or phytoplankton) are the foundation of the food chain because they convert solar energy into chemical energy through photosynthesis. This energy is then passed on to consumers (herbivores, carnivores, etc.) when they eat the producers. Without producers, there would be no initial source of energy for the rest of the organisms in the ecosystem, and the food chain would collapse.
