(3x³ + 3x² – 4x + 5) + (x³ – 2x² + x – 4) is the same as 3x³ + 3x² – 4x + 5 + x³ – 2x² + x – 4.

Step 2: Combine like terms.
Combine the terms with x³: 3x³ + x³ = 4x³.

Combine the terms with x²:  3x² - 2x² = x²
