The force which acts perpendicular to the table, and which supports the computer resting on the table is called the normal force.
The normal force is defined as the force exerted by a surface on an object in contact with it, perpendicular to the surface. For example when a computer is resting on a table, the table exerts a force perpendicular to its surface to support the computer. This force is called the normal force. It counteracts the gravitational force pulling the computer downwards and keeps the computer in equilibrium on the table.
